The original farm cottage had an unworkable layout and no aesthetic appeal but was structurally sound, so it was retained and integrated into what is otherwise a new house. This included replacement of the roof in full: a simple geometric form capped with a lantern to create a distinctive silhouette in the landscape. A generous new open plan living space has a barn-like volume with tall raked ceilings and high-level windows. It includes formal and informal living and dining areas, separated by an open-kitchen island with a back-kitchen off to one side. Bedrooms, bathrooms and a playroom occupy the old structure. Verandahs or decks step in-and-out from under the roof around all sides, defined by the heavy timber posts supporting the roof.
